Crossed Grain Symbol & Licensing

The ‘Crossed Grain’ symbol is both nationally and internationally recognised by those who need to follow a gluten-free diet.

What is the Crossed Grain symbol?

The ‘Crossed Grain’ symbol is both nationally and internationally recognised by those who need to follow a gluten-free diet. Coeliac organisations worldwide widely promote the symbol, thus its familiarity.

The symbol is a gluten-free product certification which represents safety and integrity. It provides consumers with a quick reference point when shopping and facing uncertainty on the gluten-free status of a product.

  • Having a distinct symbol of recognition can give your products a competitive edge.
  • Premium inclusion of your product in the Coeliac Society’s Food List – a listing at the front of the book plus a second listing highlighting that your product adheres to the highest standards of gluten-free production.
  • Premium inclusion of your product in the Coeliac Society’s Food List – a listing at the front of the book plus a second listing highlighting that your product adheres to the highest standards of gluten-free production.
  • Announcement of your product’s gluten-free certification on the Coeliac Society’s social media channels.
  • Opportunities to be included in Coeliac Society marketing materials as an ambassador for best practice in food production, where applicable.
Having the Cross Grain Symbol on our packaging lets us speak credibly to coeliac sufferers and has helped us become a trusted brand across our markets. As a globally distributed brand, the symbol has made it easy for our international consumers to easily identify that we are a gluten-free brand, without any confusion. The symbol is an integral part of our branding and has enabled us to evolve into the trusted brand that we are today.

What Is The Certification Process?

  • The annual cost of certification depends on the level of projected turnover for the product. This can be calculated easily upon enquiry. The Coeliac Society also offers a 15% discount on your first year, so you can see the benefits directly.

    • Yearly Certification cost starting at €500 a year.
    • All certified products must be tested annually, using a UKAS or equivalently accredited laboratory, at a cost of €65 per product.
    • European certification also requires an annual audit of your production facilities. A half day audit costs €300.

The total initial cost for obtaining a Crossed Grain licence for one product is €865.
